The Calm pt. 3: The Sanzo-ing

[Oh no, he didn't even think about that. He sighs, not wanting to run into researchers and possibly ruining any experiments they might have going. Thanks, Sanzo.

Huff.]

I feel it would be rude of me to ask to join you. I will stay on the other side of the lagoon and be away from your general vicinity.

'S not like I fucking own the lagoon. Do whatever the hell you want.

[Seriously. Sanzo's an asshole, but not so much of one that he'd shoot a guy down for sharing a bathing spot with him. As long as you didn't get on his nerves Venom, you're A-OK in his book.

Meanwhile he's just going to keep to his spot and go back to relaxing. Man, this water was the perfect temperature.]

[Venom frowns at Sanzo's language, but he takes it in stride. At least he's not raunchy like Anders tends to be. He sets his things down and strips to his shorts before dipping his foot into the other end of the lagoon. He makes sure to keep his distance as the last time he got into the water with someone, he ended up in bed with him.

So far, there hasn't been any off feelings of lust as Venom lowers himself into the warm water.]

[Sanzo could only nod his head in agreement. Really, he was surprised that no one else had found this pool before the two of them had. It was away from the tourist locations but it wasn't that far. The water felt perfect and clean and almost too relaxing.

None the less he tried not to question it too much.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth?

Yeah. That's a good phrase for this situation.

He feels himself sinking further into the water, slowly, until only his head was sticking out and leaning back against the shore. A deep comfortable sigh, one he hadn't given in a long time, leaving his lips.

How long had it been since he last felt so relaxed?]

[It takes a bit longer for Venom to relax because of what happened before. He's constantly checking for any changes in temperature and emotion since that's how it got started with Peter. Not that Peter's a bad guy or anything (Venom liked it enough to establish a rare touchy-feely friendship with him), but he'd rather not go that route for a while.

Soon the water's warmth soothes Venom like it should, and he joins Sanzo in sighing comfortably. It's just an ordinary lagoon, much to Venom's relief.]

[.... Let's get to the point. Both these men are quiet and serene in their own right, especially when they're both being left comfortably alone. Sanzo takes a long while to enjoy the comfort of the silent and relaxing natural environment around him as well as the perfectly body-temperature water that he was soaking in.

It was nice, and not something he got to experience all too often. And so he practically overstays his dip in the waters, only stirring when he almost dozed off, his head perking back up in alert when he slipped into the water far enough to feel it against his lips. ]

Hmph! Huh?

[Yep. He actually fell asleep. That just happened. Whoops.]

Oh. You're still here.

[Hi Venom. You saw nothing.]

[Venom doesn't address the sleeping part, figuring that the water merely put Sanzo to sleep. It is very relaxing, after all.]

I apologize for disturbing you.

[He seems to be apologizing a lot despite being here to relax himself. But now he's going to be silent so Sanzo can go back to his nap.]

Apology accepted.

[He'll just accept what you say and continue to glare at you from the other side of the lagoon, his body sinking further into the water to the point that he was submerged all the way up to his eyes.

He didn't understand why you were constantly apologizing, but at the same time he didn't care enough to question it. Instead continuing to just watch you with an oddly kindled interest.

There was just something strange about this situation, about you being here, that he couldn't quite place. None the less, whatever it was, it held his interest.]

[Meanwhile, Venom can feel the eyes on him, but cannot tell why. He's not all that interesting to look at (despite some other refugees saying otherwise), but if Sanzo wants to stare, he won't object.

He does his best to not stare back, because that feels kind of rude. He tucks some hair back behind his ear, showing off more of that supposed unremarkable face of his.]

[Yeah. That's not going to keep him from continuing to look at you Venom.

Truthfully, he's not even aware that he's doing it. All he's thinking is how he has an oddly funny feeling about you. He can't quite place what it is but it makes him feel awkward. Like he had to get close and investigate what was causing this sensation your presence was giving off.

He's far to self aware to do anything so strange as approach you out of the blue though, so he just stares. Continuing to make this entire scene somewhat uncomfortable.]

[And Venom here is wondering what he should do. Should he address the staring? Cave and stare back? Leave Sanzo be and pull himself out of the water? He mulls over all these options but he has yet to move an inch. His gaze remains averted as he pretends he doesn't notice the blonde staring at him.

It takes a few minutes, but Venom finally breaks the uncomfortable silence.]

Is there something on my face?

[smithandwesson]

Yeah. That stupid expression of yours.

[As sassy as ever, Sanzo retorted. Let it be known Venoms confused look was probably due to Sanzos looking at him, thus forming a strange Catch 22 of a staring contest.

None the less it did not stop his gaze. He couldn’t help himself. He wasn’t really sure about why it was but he felt the intrinsic need to reach out and... and what exactly?

This whole thing confused him.]

Stop it.

[Rude. Venom huffs and continues to avert his gaze, not giving Sanzo any more reason to stare at him. Now he gets to stare at that big blue eye in his hair.]

Fine.

[Aaaaand more huffing ensues.]

[Damn it.

This only made things worse.

Now that stupid eyeball thing that his hair had was staring at him.

What was with that thing anyway?

He's trying to ignore it but the more he sits there trying not to look the more he feels himself uncomfortably shifting around.

No.

He just couldn't do it.

There was no way.

He wasn't even thinking as he stood up from the water. Angrily making his way across the grotto, his fists clenched, over only to stare down at Venom who was now sitting directly before him.]

Oy. Move your hair.

[Sanzo is more unpredictable than expected. After that brief glimpse of the monk's body, Venom focuses on how the other decides to sit in front of him. And then comes the request to move his hair.]

Why?

[The question is confused and defiant at the same time.]

[Believe you him Venom, he’s just as confused and unsure as to what he’s doing as you are. Which is why he’s giving a particularly grumpy look as he continues to look directly at you.]

It’s annoying. And it’s staring at me.

How are you not tangled up in that bullshit anyway?

[He lifted his arm, just about to brush it out of the way himself when he stops, catching himself at what he was about to do and pausing.

No. No way. He was totally not about to touch you in any way. That would be dumb.]

What's staring at you? My eye?

[UUUUGH... Venom parts his hair even more so the eye's broken up, and in return it's showing off more of that face. Venom's eyes just happen to be almost the same shade of blue as the one in his hair. Possibly a bit darker.]

I take good care of it, is why. It's not professional to have it all tangled up.

I can’t think of a single thing about that hairdo of yours that qualifies as ‘professional’.

[Huh. What a sight. Venom was a goddamn prettyboy, there was no way Sanzo could deny that. But the whole stupidity of what was going on between them brought up more questions for the monk than anything else.

What was with this strange feeling? And why did it have to be around this guy?]

What job let’s you go running around with your hair in your face like an idiot? I can’t imagine it accomplishing much.

[Piercing violet eyes met striking blue, not looking away as if he were trying to win some sort of competition, even if that competition were more with himself than it was with Venom.]

I don't think anyone would come to work with dirty, tangled hair.

[If Venom is pretty, he wouldn't know, really. Sure, a couple of people complimented his hair and called him gorgeous, but he never believed them. Sanzo's also not the first to call him on having his hair in his face.]

I grew it like this for numerous reasons. One being that it hides my identity.

[Venom's not the only one with piercing eyes. Those violet ones are rather lovely. It's making the former assassin kind of shy, almost to the point of blushing.]

How insensible.

[Really Venom, if you wanted to conceal your identity so badly why not just do what the rest of us do and wear a cloth over your face or something? It's less noticeable and at least then you can take off your fucking disguise sometimes.

Having a disguise permanently attached to you is kind of counter intuitive.

Instead of saying it though he just sort of continues to stare. Hesitating a moment, awkwardly, before continuing.]

What other purpose does it serve?

[Please help distract him from his fleeting impulses before he does something stupid.]

[Because masks and the like clash with his outfits and are too obvious. Better to have this than some dumb disguise that he has to change all the time.]

I have my own personal reasons.

[Such as having an expressive face that he needs to hide if he's to keep emotionless.]

[You are just as bad as Giovanni, you know that? What is it with all of you assholes flashing about your edgy fashion statements all the time?]

Is that so?

[Thank god Sanzo is the king at upholding an emotionless glance, or, more to the point, a constantly perturbed scowl. It’s always there. It rarely changes.

You were one of the few people that made him smile much to his own embarrassment. But he’d just make sure to never bring up that incident ever.

Avoidance is the key to forgetting after all.]

Do you have some sort of weird scar you’re hiding or something?

[Of course none to this is actually distracting his thoughts as, instead he found himself scooting ever so slightly closer. Maybe if he’s close enough he could see if your face is secretly disfigured in some way.]

No, I don't.

[Assassins were meticulous about identifying marks. No visible piercings, tattoos, or scars. Anything that could scar was treated immediately to minimize the appearance.

And sorry, Sanzo. Closer inspection will yield very little. Venom's skin is near flawless, with grey/white eyelashes adorning those blue eyes. The closeness isn't lost on him, either. He's averting his gaze a bit so he won't have to stare directly at the other man. Yet he's not pushing Sanzo away, either. That desire to reach out and touch him is getting stronger.]

There's nothing interesting about my face.

[It was too late. The impulse was too strong and finally Sanzo had found a way to act on it without making it seem too strange and awkward between them.

He reached out, taking Venom by the chin to tilt the others face closer to his, hoping to make direct eye contact.

There was nothing strange about this, definitely. He was just summing Venom up was all. So what if their faces were oddly close to each other?]

Why are you averting your gaze if you’re not hiding something hmn?

[Yep. That was a challenge Venom.]

[Yes he's totally summing up Venom, though the former assassin gasps at the sudden touch.]

I'm not hiding anything.

[His cheeks are getting really warm as he tries not to make eye contact. Whatever's in the air must be clouding his judgment, because he kind of wants to close the distance between them. His lips part like he wants to say something, but nothing comes out.]
